Training
Training in kendo usually involves suburi (repetitive cutting practice without a target), practice of particular techniques with a partner as a target, and jigeiko (free sparring). In addition to this are the kata – set forms of a very technical nature practised with a partner. They are non-contact and require the bokuto rather than the shinai, which more closely resembles the appearance and feel of a real sword.
